100+ parts in bins

Every widget that
makes a tote useful.

Totes come with roughly a dozen failure points, and almost every one is a cheap, bin-pickable fix. Keep a spare or two on the shelf and you'll run the same tank for another decade.

Plate № 05

Twelve failure points. Every one is a cheap fix.

The lid, the 6-inch screw cap, the 2-inch ball valve, the gasket behind it, and the small bonding surface where the discharge neck meets the bottle. Each of these wears on its own schedule. Keep a shelf of spares — a lid and a ball valve each cost less than a lunch — and the same tote keeps its life for another decade.

The 2″ buttress and its cousins.

Most tote hardware fails because somebody bought the wrong thread. Here's the short field guide. If you're unsure, photograph the existing valve flange, send it to the yard, and we'll match it off the photo.

The cheap fixes that save a tote

We get calls every week about "dead" totes that are actually three parts shy of perfect. Before scrapping a tank, check these five things. Every one is bin-pickable from our shelf and most of them install with a crescent wrench.

Gasket ring

The #1 cause of a weeping valve. Pops in, seats flat.

Valve handle

Snapped handle doesn't mean the valve is dead — replace the lever.

Vented cap

Missing cap = mosquito nursery. Replace and screen.

Cage rivet

Straighten the cage, re-rivet, and the tote is structurally back.

Pallet skid

A cracked pallet looks fatal but swaps in ten minutes.

Gasket chemistry cheat sheet

The valve body and ball are usually fine. The gasket is where fluid compatibility lives and dies. Get this wrong and a tote that looks perfect starts weeping at the flange in under 72 hours.

How the bins actually work

We keep roughly 100 SKUs on the accessories shelf, all bin-picked by a part number stenciled on a wooden sort drawer. The system is embarrassingly analog and hasn't failed us in sixteen years. A few operational notes:

  • · Pickup is free and open 8–4 Mon–Fri. Show up, we pull it. Most visits are under 15 minutes.
  • · Ground ship under 2 lb lands via USPS at standard rates anywhere east of the Mississippi.
  • · Bulk freight for 50+ gaskets or 25+ valves goes on our Tuesday/Thursday box truck run within the PA/OH/WV triangle.
  • · OEM vs aftermarket — we stock both, and we'll tell you which one fits your exact Mauser, Schütz, or Greif spec.
  • · Emergency parts — if you're a recurring customer and something blows at 2 a.m., we have a short list of phone numbers for off-hours pickup. Ask.
